WITTMANN IN HAMBURG
Craftsmanship perfection
and timeless design
The Austrian family business Wittmann has been producing high-quality upholstered furniture using traditional handcraft since 1896. In the early 1960s, the family took the decisive step from a saddlery to an upholstery shop - and at the same time from a local to a national company. The current generation has established the company internationally, so that you can buy a real Wittmann in New York or Tokyo just as you can buy one in Hamburg at Bornhold.
For 120 years, Wittmann has stood for precision, individuality and unparalleled craftsmanship. In collaboration with internationally renowned designers, perfectly crafted furniture is created that enriches private interiors and unusual objects around the world. We are not looking for the latest trend or the loudest design. Elegance, quality, durability and the best sitting or lying comfort are the central ideas of the company philosophy - and a design is considered successful when it expresses precisely these characteristics.
The absolute commitment to quality is expressed in the choice of timeless designs, the use of the best materials, careful production and attentive control of the excellent craftsmanship. Time is taken for each piece of furniture, for each work step, for each employee. The result is long-lasting furniture with a timeless design.
OUR FAVORITE FROM WITTMANN
Armchair "Vuelta"
Turn, turn, return – that is what the Spanish word Vuelta means. The backrest playfully turns around the seat, becomes an armrest, and continues to surround the person sitting, as if in an embrace.
The design by Spanish designer Jaime Hayon exudes the charm of a small sculpture. Unusual in its proportions, it can be perfectly arranged with the Vuelta sofa - making it a real eye-catcher. In our Bornhold showroom, we have arranged armchairs and two-seaters halfway up the stairs for you to try out.
Even in the herd, these little solitaires are real individuals.
“Wittmann furniture is purchased to preserve it and pass it on to the next generation.”
A CLASSIC FROM WITTMANN
Dining room chair "Eve"
“Design needs no explanation” – that is the motto of Soda Designers Nada Nasrallah and Christian Horner. This is the basis for their aim to design calm, clear and unobtrusive furniture that supports our daily routines and rituals, perhaps even makes them easier – or changes them a little.
With Nils, the designer duo demonstrates how to achieve maximum seating comfort with reduced forms. To make the chair look even lighter, it is now also available with shortened armrests.
TOTALLY ON TREND BY WITTMANN
Dining Sofa "Odeon"
Sitting on a bench at the dinner table is actually a traditional idea. But it is more relevant than ever, because the dining table has largely replaced the sofa as the center of family life.
Sitting on the Odeon bench is as comfortable as sitting on a sofa; you can spread out as much as you like, but you can also move closer together. The steep backrest and higher seat height make Odeon the perfect ergonomic seat. The striking lines give the bench an individuality that makes it a beautiful object even when standing free.
THE FAST ONE BY WALTER KNOLL
shell chair "Kyo"
Everything revolves around them. The elegant shell chairs from Walter Knoll have been coveted for generations and have long since achieved cult status. Curved lines, gentle curves and striking seam patterns characterize the Kyo model as a typical piece of furniture from Walter Knoll. Designed by Pearson Lloyd, it won the Red Dot Design Award.
The Kyo shell chair envelops its owner in high-quality upholstery in a sweeping, elegant manner – like the seat of a sports car. The shell, which is either covered in plastic or completely in leather on the outside, is easy to rotate. With a classic four-legged base. Or in the new versions with a harmonious five-legged base and castors for freedom of movement all around.
CARPETS BY WALTER KNOLL
Chimbuka Carpet
There is a Swahili saying: “A good beginning promises a good ending.” Chimbuka means sunrise, and the design reflects the colors of the sky: intense reds and blues as they shine in the morning or evening light.
Walter Knoll's carpets, created in collaboration with textile designer Helmut Scheufele, were inspired by the landscapes and colors of Africa. They draw their strength from the rich creativity of the African continent and are translated into timeless, knotted works of art.
Durability and precision
